Espresso is a drink rather than a bean or roast level. Jones offers 3 types of blends designed for high-pressure espresso extraction. Espresso blends also work well as drip coffee, not just espresso extraction, and have lower acid and round body. Each of the blends have different profiles and are designed for different types of consumers.

Espresso Cara Mia is the lightest blend. This blend does not have oil on the surface and works well in espresso machines with integrated grinders. If you prefer espresso without milk, this is the best choice for you.

JC Espresso is the medium roast blend used in most of the Jones Coffee retail stores. This blend is the most versatile to enjoy with or without milk and does not have oil on the surface and works well in espresso machines with integrated grinders.

Espresso PRC is the darkest roast blend with an oily surface and does not work well in espresso machines with integrated grinders. If you enjoy milk with your espresso, then this is the best choice for you.


Technical Definition: According to the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), espresso is defined as a 25–35ml beverage (approximately 0.85–1.2 ounces) made from 7–9 grams of coffee (14–18 grams for a double shot), brewed with water between 195°–205°F (90.5°–96.1°C) and 9–10 atmospheres of pressure, with a brewing time of 20–30 seconds. The grounds should be finely ground to achieve this extraction time, and the espresso should be prepared specifically for and immediately served to the consumer.
